Removable curative orthodontic appliance is a plate with plastic basis, which bears against the palate, and metal elements for fixing appliance and moving separate teeth.

Pediatric removable prosthesis is a plate with plastic basis, artificial teeth and metal elements for fixing prosthesis in the mouth.

How do you use removable curative orthodontic appliance and pediatric removable prosthesis?

When you wear removable curative orthodontic appliance and pediatric removable prosthesis, you shall observe specific requirements of nutrition and oral hygiene.

Habituation

  • Habituation to an appliance (prosthesis) proceeds in course of several days. In this period hyper salivation ad speech difficulties may occur. It is recommended to read aloud in order to normalize speech.
  • In the beginning of wearing an appliance (prosthesis) painful feelings may occur. In this case, you shall contact your orthodontist for correction.
  • If the pain is severe, it is recommended to remove appliance (prosthesis) and put it 2 or 3 hours before visiting the doctor.
  • In case if the doctor recommends to wear removable curative orthodontic appliance round-the-clock, you shall control the child, so he or she wouldn’t remove an appliance when it’s not necessary.
  • If a child wears pediatric removable prosthesis, orthodontist shall determine the time of wearing it. Usually, it amounts to not less than 12 hours without taking time of sleeping in consideration.

Nutrition

When a removable curative orthodontic appliance or a pediatric removable prosthesis is in the mouth, it is strictly forbidden to take hard and sticky food (nuts, crackers, hard fruits, hard meat, cream cheese spread, toffee sweets, etc.).

Handling

Cleaning of orthodontic appliance (prosthesis) shall be executed out of oral cavity. It shall be cleaned with a toothbrush with paste or soap at least twice a day. After meal, you may remove the appliance (prosthesis) and rinse it with running water. Special tablets for cleaning prosthesis may also be used. The teeth shall be cleaned in a standard way without appliance.

If cake of an orthodontic appliance (prosthesis) breaking, it is required to contact your orthodontist. You shall not try to fix the appliance by yourself!

Pediatric prosthesis is subject to replacement as a child grows, approximately once in 10-12 months until permanent teeth eruption.
