Artificial crowns, dental bridgeworks prothesis, removable prothesis on implanted basis become a part of teeth alignment and are subject to the same number of bacteria, as natural teeth are. Condition of your prothesis significantly depends on gums condition, condition of osseous tissue, where implant is placed, that’s why it’s required to observe rules of personal oral hygiene carefully when you have implants.

The following set is recommended for a proper care after prothesis and oral cavity, including when you have implants:

  • toothbrush with soft (medium) bristles
  • toothpaste
  • floss
  • single-row interdental brush
  • superfloss
  • special mouthwashes for oral cavity
  • irrigator

You shall clean your teeth and implant’s prothesis regularly, at least twice a day. You shall clean all available surfaces of non-removable prothesis (chewing, labial, glossal, palatinal) with a toothbrush the same, as your natural teeth. It’s better to clean tooth crown surface and a gum, adjoining it, with a soft (medium) brush with the use of a usual toothpaste (except for abrasive one, which may hurt prothesis surface). Herewith, try to make active brushing actions at an angle 45°, directed from a gum to a cutting edge and prothesis to a chewable prothesis surface.

Flosses, brushes, irrigators may be used for cleaning spaces between teeth and subgingival space. You shall clean internal surface of prothesis and also surfaces in the area of artificial teeth, in the part, confining with a gum (cleaning area) and implant part, confining with a gum, especially carefully.

You shall use superfloss, brushes and irrigators for that, depending on the volume of cleaning area.

If you have a removable prothesis on implanted basis, you shall release a removable prothesis before cleaning an implant and you shall clean an implant at least twice a day with a soft or medium toothbrush with toothpaste, and use superfloss and irrigators, if necessary. A removable prothesis on impanted basis shall be cleaned out of the oral cavity at least twice a day (in the morning before meal and in the evening before going to bed) inside and outside with warm water with a toothbrush with soft bristles and non-abrasive toothpaste.

You shall rinse removable prothesis after each meal, as far as it’s possible. It’s extremely welcome to use special solutions and tablets, possessing additional disinfection and deodorant effect, once or twice a day (according to the manufacturer’s indications) for cleaning removable prothesis out of the oral cavity.

In case, if a removable prothesis is taken off for a nighttime, you shall store it in a special container in wet environment. If a removable prothesis hurt, and it’s an entirely possible symptom in the period of habituation to a prothesis (up to 1 month), you shall remove a prothesis and contact your doctor. Herewith, 2-3 hours before an appointment you shall wear a prothesis, so that the reason, causing painful feelings, would be seen.

Remember, that there shall not be plaque through all perimeter of implant and gum contact area, because otherwise appearance of such complication, as periimplantitis, is possible, and almost always its consequence is implant loss.

After cleaning prothesis on implants, implants themselves and your teeth, it is recommended to rinse oral cavity carefully with water or with mouthwash.

In order to avoid prothesis breaking or damage, and also excessive pathologic pressure to the retainer teeth, you shall not shew and crunch hard products (nuts, crackers, etc.), hard things (pens, pencils, test tubes, etc.), it’s also required to quit bad habits (biting threads, agnails off, etc.).

When you notice mobility of non-removable prothesis, unpleasant smell, inflammation and bleeding of a gum in the area of prothesis, painful feelings under crowns or near them, you shall immediately contact your doctor; any autonomous prothesis repair is inadmissible.

Remember, that you shall visit dentist at least twice a year.
